Hysterectomy

What you read

Hysterectomy ,means extraction of the uterus.
In hysterectomy, in addition to the removal of the uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries may also be removed.
There are several types of hysterectomy that are defined based on tissue that is removed. Complete hysterectomy, the most common type of surgery, is taken in the uterus and cervix.
A partial hysterectomy in which the uterus is removed, but the cervix is not removed.
Radical hysterectomy in which the uterus, cervix, small parts of the upper part of the vagina and some soft tissues in the pelvis are removed.
This type of operation is performed only in cases of cervical cancer and must be done by a trained gynecologist.

Time of hysterectomy
More than one-fifth of all women undergo hysterectomy during their lifetime and can be said to be very common. Hysterectomy is required in almost all cases of uterine cancer or cervical cancer and is also commonly recommended for ovarian cancer. However, most hysterectomy operations are performed in women who do not have cancer but who prefer to have their uterus and hysterectomy due to bleeding and severe pain in the uterus.
Such surgical procedures are suitable for women who are unwilling to have a pregnancy in the future. Hysterectomy is usually one of the treatment options for women with fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or severe menstrual periods. Women who have uterine prolapse may also use hysterectomy for prolapse repair.

Hysterectomy procedure

Hysterectomy is a major operation and is performed under general anesthesia. In addition to different types of hysterectomy, there are several methods for doing this. The choice of how to perform a hysterectomy depends on factors such as uterine size, surgeon’s experience and expertise. Abdominal hysterectomy is the most common method in which a roughly 6-inch incision is created and performed through this incision.
Vaginal hysterectomy that is performed by vaginal surgery. In this type of hysterectomy, no traces of surgery are left on the body. Laparoscopic vaginal hysterectomy is performed by the doctor through a very small cut, with laparoscopy and vagina.
Laparoscopic removal of the uterus (Laparoscopic hysterectomy) Many laparoscopic surgeries (closed surgery) are currently performed, and this is due to the many advantages of laparoscopy. This is done by creating a few small incisions on the abdomen (usually 4 cuts of 0.5 and 1 centimeters) with cameras and advanced specialized surgical equipment. Because of this, due to the magnification of specialized surgical cameras, the surgery is done more carefully.
